Day 5 - Aberdeen - The Tunnels

The Future Boy bus pulled up at the back of the venue, The Tunnels, in Aberdeen, at around 7am. Most of the Future Boy crew was still asleep after the fun of the night before. The Tunnels is an awkward place to get to as it literally is located in a tunnel and the street leading into it on one side has no access. The bus had to drive around until the driver could find an alternate route. In the end the bus parked in a side street (a sort of alleyway) right near the back of the venue. The street was kind of like cobblestones and it was wet and slippery. This was going to be a little bit of a challenge to shift gear.

At around 2pm the Future Boy crew began to wake up. James and Ricky hung out in the lounge talking for a bit while everyone else got up, got dressed, and got ready.

It was too late for breakfast so everyone discussed what to have for lunch. Before heading off, James decided to have a look at the venue to see what it was like. James had never been to The Tunnels before and found its peculiar location to be quite interesting. The venue smaller than the venues we had already played but that just meant the crowd would have to get a little closer. James said he still felt good about this gig.

There were some fans hanging out nearby the entrance to the venue and James stopped to have a chat with them and pose for some pictures.

After chatting with fans, it was time to go and find some lunch. There was a shopping centre nearby which had a Wagamama in it, James’ favourite, so it was agreed to go there. On the 10 minute walk to the shopping centre James encountered some more fans on the street who recognized him. He stopped for a moment to pose for pictures and to chat.

After a brief stop, it was on to the shopping centre. After a quick look around and some discussion among the group over whether or not to have Wagamama again, it was decided that a slight change of pace might be nice. Everyone walked across to Yo! Sushi for lunch instead of Wagamama this time.

After lunch, the group made a quick stop in the Apple store. James got a new iPod Nano, Timmy got and iPad, and Nick Bourne got a new case for his iPad that he got at the start of the tour. Everyone was all set and headed back to the bus.

Despite the slippery street near the bus the gear was shifted in without problems and it was then time for sound check. James was having problems with his in-ear monitors so he was forced to perform without them.

With sound check out of the way, it was back to the bus to rest for a little while. Some of the band went into the venue to watch City Stereo and Octane OK perform before going back on the bus and getting ready for the Future Boy performance.

During set-up, Ricky and Timmy posed for the camera:

Everyone was in a really good mood and was loving the performance from the first minute they got on stage. James even waved directly to the Team Future Boy camera during his performance.

James, Timmy, and Ricky were having a great performance, and more importantly, were genuinely having fun out there!

The thing that seemed to pump up the guys even more was the fact the the crowd were really loving the set. Some of the members of City Stereo and Octane OK also came to watch the Future Boy performance. There was a bit of a party atmosphere going on.

After the Future Boy set was over it was time for Twenty Twenty to take the stage. After the show was over and all the gear had been loaded back into the bus and trailer, it was time for a little fun!

Future Boy had his VIP meet & greet fans aboard the bus and hung out for quite a while, telling stories, answering questions, signing merchandise, and posing for pictures. It was a fun group to hang out with and everyone seemed to have a good time!

After all of the fans had left and it was time to go home, Timmy popped outside to have a quick cigarette and to enjoy a can of “Battery” the Future Boy energy drink.

At last, it was time to climb aboard the bus and ride on to Norwich, first for another rest day, and then for a show. Thank you, Scotland! You’ve been amazing!
